Allow Him to reign in your life

Lord, please reign in my life! You are my King! Please help me get back on the right path when I walk away and help me never to let go of You! You are my King and my desire is to serve You and never to turn away from You!
The Israelites wanted a king to reign over them, they wanted someone they could see, someone who could “judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.” (1 Samuel 8:20). They also wanted a king so “that we also may be like all the nations…” (1 Samuel 8:20). They wanted a king in order to fit in with the nations around them. They must have felt like the laughing stock of the area, they served a King that no one could see.
But in asking for a king they were saying that God was not good enough for them, they were rejecting God as their King. God says to His appointed Judge, Samuel, in 1 Samuel 8:7-8, “…they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them… they have forsaken Me and served other gods.” After all God had done for them they wanted to replace Him as their King. They wanted a king who would go before them and fight for them, forgetting that God is the One who goes before us and fights for us.
The Lord tells Samuel to tell the Israelites what a king would do to them (1 Samuel 8:10-18), how he would take from them and make them work for him. Yet, they still cried out for a king (1 Samuel 8:19). And so, God heard their cry (1 Samuel 9:16) and gave them a king.
As humans we often times want something we can see and we convince ourselves that what we want is better than what we already have. And God, understanding our weakness gives us what we are crying out for, even though He knows it is not what is best for us. He gives it to us so that we can learn to trust Him and so that we can see that He is what we really need. He is our King and when we replace Him with other gods, money, fame, work, etc., we end up hurt and lost. The Israelites
replaced God and served their kings and ended up hurt and lost in a foreign land.
God is our King, He is the one who fights for us, He goes before us, and He will never fail us like other gods will. Allow Him to reign in your life.
